Augustus Saint-Gaudens Commemorative Medal, Reverse, 1961

Issued in 1961 by Toivo Johnson and struck by the Metal Arts Company of Rochester, New York as one of a set of six medals commemorating coin designers.  The obverse of this 75-mm, solid silver medal is a copy of the famous landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.  The reverse shows the home and studio of Saint-Gaudens and the 1907 Double Eagle coin he designed.

Obverse:  CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS OCT XII MCCCCXCII (Oct. 12, 1492)

Reverse: AUGUSTUS SAINT-GAUDENS MDCCCXLVIII - MCMVII  (1848 - 1907)
               DESIGNER OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AMERICAN COIN. THE 1907 DUBLE EAGLE.
               ON THE OBVERSE IS DEPICTED HIS MAGNIFICENT INTERPRETATION OF THE 
               DISCOVERY OF AMERICA.

                "ASPET" HIS HOME AND STUDIO WHERE HE LIVED, WORKED, AND DIED.
                NOW KEPT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS THE SAINT-GAUDENS MEMORIAL.
