Dies cut in 1869
This piece consists of the obverse of JAB-36 muled with the reverse of JAB-37. It is one of the fifteen different mule varieties actually struck by Bolen. The piece pictured is from Bolen's personal collection and is edge lettered "5 STRUCK". Ex. Stacks 3/2000 Sale, lot 1180; ex Q.D. Bowers collection sale via Hayden 10/2010, where it sold for $1650.
Bolen states that he defaced both dies and donated them to the Boston Numismatic Society in 1870. They are currently unaccounted for.
