Mule JAB M/E-09 ARSENAL WITHOUT SUN / LIBERTY CAP Tin
|
28mm - Unknown number struck by Edwards
This variety consists of the obverse of JAB-4 muled with the reverse of JAB-9. The obverse die was cut in 1862 and sold to Mason, then to Edwards. The reverse die was cut in 1864 and sold to Edwards. Both dies are currently in the ANS collection.
The M/E-9 variety is extremely rare. Musante states that examples are also known in Silver, Copper and Brass. The Massachusetts Historical Society has examples in Tin and Copper. I acquired the example pictured in a 2011 E-Bay sale.
