Auction Help

Here we describe the general features of the Auction Area.  For detailed help with submitting a listing go to the Help file in the Auction section.

No Fees:  Currently there are no fees for listing and selling items on this Ebay-like auction.  You can try out everything -- extra photos, home-page featured, category-featured, highlighted, bold, reserve price, Buy Now, Swap, etc. for free.  Just start uploading your auctions!

Starting Bid:  You can choose the starting bid.  Item cannot be sold for a lower price.

Reserve Price:  You can have a secret "reserve price" in addition to a starting bid.  Item will not be sold for less than your reserve.  Bidders will only know whether the reserve has been met or not.

Buy Now:  You can set a "Buy Now" price.  Before a bid is placed, anyone can buy the item at that fixed price.  After a bid is placed, the "Buy Now" option goes away.

Fixed Listed Price:  If you choose the Starting Bid and Buy Now price to be the same, the item will be listed at a fixed price as in a classified ad.  There will be no bidding -- only an option to buy at the price you choose.

Swap:  You can choose whether to accept offers to swap one medal for another +/- cash.  Can't do this on Ebay!

Shipping:  Indicate in your auction who will pay for shipping and set a fixed shipping cost if you like.

Payment:  Indicate in your auction the types of payment you will accept (credit card logos included).

Ask Seller a Question:  Bidders can email the seller though the website to ask a question about a specific item.

Send Auction to a Friend:  You can email an auction link to a friend you think might be interested.

Featured item, bold, highlighted, etc.:  You can pay a little extra (free for now) to make your item stand out.

Search:  Site has a search engine so that you can rapidly find what you are looking for; for example, if you collect art deco medals, just enter "deco".

Item Watch:  You can add an item to a list of items you wish to follow in case you want to make a bid later or just see how much that item will sell for.

Keywords:  You can list key worlds such as "nouveau" or "Turin".  You will receive an email every time an auction item containing those words is listed.

Your Shop:  As a member (again, it is free to join) you can have your own webpage where you can describe yourself and/or your business.  It is a free webpage that you can refer people to or link in your auction descriptions.  For dealers, this amounts to free advertising.

Feedback:  Sellers and Buyers can rate each other (as on Ebay) and you can see rating histories to judge how reliable a buyer or seller is when it comes to payment, shipping, etc.

News Items:  Email your medal news items to jwbirks@hotmail.com and the item will be listed on the homepage.
