JAB-10 HIGLEY COPPER FASCIMILE Copper #2 28mm - 40 struck Dies cut in 1864 Bolen sold the dies to Dr. Edwards who issued a number of restrikes. They then passed from Edwards to Cogan. They were then defaced by either Cogan or possibly Bolen himself. Bolen was concerned that the dies were being used to strike examples that were being passed off as genuine. The Higley dies were the last Colonial ones that he sold. See JAB M/E-13 for an example struck with the defaced obverse die. The Bolen copies have six dots on the reverse crown band, the originals have only five. On the obverse, the Bolen copies have a secret dot within the C of Pence. The circle around the deer is complete on the Bolen copy, while it is not on the original. A VF with scratches example sold for $352 in the Stacks August 2013 sale. Stacks also sold Uncirculated examples for $911 and $1116 in their August 2016 and February 2014 sales. Keywords: bolen higley
