JAB-13 WASHINGTON-HE LIVED FOR HIS COUNTRY Copper
28mm - 5 struck

Both dies were cut in 1864 and later sold to A. Ramsey of New York. They are currently unaccounted for.

It is believed that five examples were struck in Copper. The Massachusetts and Pennsylvania Historical Societies each have an example, leaving only three available to the collecting community. Other than the piece pictured, I am aware of only three other examples that have appeared at auction since 1982. The most recent appearance was an AU example, sold by Stacks in August 2017 for $1175 (lot 25). The piece is extremely rare and obtaining an example is probably a once or twice in a lifetime opportunity.
