JAB-05 YOUNG AMERICA Copper OVERSTRUCK ON 1854 LARGE CENT
28mm - 75 struck
Dies cut in 1962. They were sold to Mason and on to Edwards, both of who struck mules. They are currently in the ANS collection.

The Young America piece is Bolen's first storecard and was designed to promote his die sinking business. The obverse features "Young America", adopted from the cover of the satirical political publication of the same name. Bolen must have shared the views expressed within the publication and mostly likely the Republican party, adopting this logo for his own storecard.

An example struck over a 1847 Large cent was listed as 760A-1ao, with the unique rarity of R-10. The example pictured indicates there are at least two examples. A NGC MS-63 piece, struck on a plain planchet, sold for $1093 in the Stacks 9/09 auction (lot 7241). Check your pieces carefully, since I suspect there are more out there. Pieces struck on identifiable U.S. coinage will command a steep premium.
