JAB-16 WASHINGTON / SOLDIER'S FAIR Copper
28mm - 10 struck
Both dies were cut in 1864 and later sold to A.R. McCoy of New York. They are currently unaccounted for. Woodward struck 10 copies in Copper. Bolen states he struck two examples in "Copper", but Musante believes they were actually struck on 3mm thick Brass or Copper/Nickel planchets. The Woodward Copper restrikes would be on 2.5mm thick planchets.

Copper examples of JAB-16 are extremely rare. There was an example in a five piece lot sold in a May 1992 Stacks sale. I picked this piece in a private sale several weeks later and believe it may have come from that lot. Presidential sold a silvered XF piece in December 1992. That same piece may also have been sold in the 11/2017 and 9/2021 Stacks Sales. Other than these appearances, I have no other sales records for this variety.
