JAB-26 JEFFERSON MEDAL Silver
25mm - 2 struck

The dies were cut in 1867 and traded to Kline in 1872. They are currently in the ANS collection.

Bolen struck two examples in Silver. Kline also struck a few examples in this metal. It is fairly easy to tell the restrikes from the originals. The originals are 2.2 to 3.0 mm thick. The restrikes are only 1.5 to 2.0 mm in thickness.

The reverse quote is from Jefferson's first inaugural address delivered on March 4, 1801 and summarizes his view on what the role of government and his administration ought to be.

This variety is very rare. I have only seen five auction records in the past 30 years. A thick Uncirculated Bolen original sold for $1093 in the January 2011 Stacks sale of the Q. D. Bowers collection, lot 6618. An Unc. restrike brought $748 in the same sale.
