Mule JAB W-01 WASHINGTON FATHER / SOLDIER'S FAIR Silvered Copper
28mm - Estimate Five struck

This variety consists of the Obverse of JAB-14 muled with the Reverse of JAB-16. Both dies were cut in 1864 and sold to A.R. McCoy of New York. Their whereabouts is currently unknown.

It is believed that five pieces were struck by Woodward in Copper. A silver plated example was auctioned as lot 1205 in Woodward's 10/25/1886 sale. The piece pictured may very well be that example. It was sold as lot 126 in the Stacks Feb. 2015 sale and sold again as lot 152 of a August 2015 Centennial Auction sale. It is the only Copper example of W-1 that I have ever seen offered for sale.
